WE CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Environment, waste management, energy, and water are not given much attention by the population. With devastating consequences. Shanthimalai Trust launched the “Environment Care” programme in 2022 and provided 45 lakhs for its development.

This initiative is fully aligned with local authorities and decision-makers for stronger impact: clean roads, clean water, wider use of solar energy are the “simple goals”.

Says environmental engineer Dr. Rajasekar: “We want to pull out all the stops I learned in my many years of experience in the Indian waste and energy industry. Even if it is a mammoth task at first, we can change things for the better with combined strength. Because love for God also means love for the environment.”

OBJECTIVES

GREEN EARTH MISSION: Planting and growing thousands of trees, cultivation of land, thus lessening the negative impact on ecosystems and biodiversity in the community.

INTEGRATED FARMING: Promotion of natural farming, aqua culture, agro forestry, livestock, and biogas generation using organic menure to improve soil fertility.

WASTE MANAGEMENT: Convert waste into use. Reduce, recycle, reuse. Aligned with municipalities, industry, NPOs and the private sector for effective implementation.

PLUS: Promotion of alternative energy, water augmentation and conservation, a herbal park to save herbs from extinction.

REGULAR TRAINING of all stakeholders on the above.

WE CARE FOR EDUCATION

Our Education Programmes are built on the Vision and Values of the Founders of the Shanthimalai Trust, Dr. Hugo and Anne Maier:

We strive to transform the lives of underprivileged children by providing a holistic development space beyond academic performance, nurturing their well-being at a physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual level. The key to development is “Help for Self-Help”.

OBJECTIVES

WELL-BEING: Physical, mental, and social well-being as well as life-skills are as important as academic performance to live a happy life.

LEARNING CULTURE: Learning each and every day is not mere acquisition of facts for a test. Rather developing playful openness to the unknown and awareness of our fellow beings and environment. Off-line and on-line.

COMMUNICATION AND SELF-DEVELOPMENT: To know ourselves as children of Arunachala and develop self-esteem and self-expression in all aspects of life.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Over and above theory, we train children in relevant practical computer skills they will need in work-life.

Creating Impact

We have been working to improve the lives of over 25,000 poor people from different background. They have a huge impact on us and all our activities, because they highlight those parts of society that are broken. So we can help them in all possible ways to regain hope and thrive in life.

Numbers push us to give our best and make sure we go beyond our own limits. We are happy to grow and help better every single day.
